MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT

Professor

Applicants should have an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited and recognized University, at least three (3) years teaching and research experience since being appointed Associate Professor or equivalent and research experience. In addition, they must have accumulated minimum of sixty (60) equivalent publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent of which at least forty (40) should be from referred scholarly journals; supervised a minimum of five (5) postgraduate students to completion, at least two (2) at doctoral level, registered with relevant professional bodies (where applicable) and attracted research or development funds as an Associate Professor or equivalent.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide academic leadership in the department by teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in their areas of specialization, supervise postgraduate students, initiate and carry out research.

Associate Professor

Applicants should have an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited and recognized University; at least three (3) years teaching and research experience since being appointed Senior Lecturer or equivalent and research experience.

In addition, they must have accumulated a minimum of forty eight (48) equivalent publication points since attaining Senior Lecturer or equivalent of which at least thirty two (32) should be from referred scholarly journal; supervised a minimum of four (4) postgraduate students to completion, including at least (1) at doctoral level; registered with relevant professional bodies (where applicable) and attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer.

Senior Lecturer

Applicants should have earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification (or a master’s degree qualification in special cases) in the relevant area from an accredited and recognized University; at least three (3) years teaching experience at University level since being appointed Lecturer or six (6) years research experience. In addition they must accumulated a minimum of thirty two (32) equivalent publication points since attaining Lecturer or equivalent of which at least twenty four (24) should be from referred scholarly journals; supervised a minimum of three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a lecturer or equivalent; registered with relevant professional bodies (where applicable).

Lecturer

Applicants should have an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University OR a Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized, University ( in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at University level or in research; and a minimum of twenty four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from referred journal paper and registered with relevant professional bodies (where applicable)

Tutorial Fellow

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Maintaining student accounting records including billing, receipting and clearance for exams and other clearances

  5. Analysis of students old debts as well as debt collection

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Posting of expenditure to the system
  2. Maintaining and reconciling of debtors and creditors ledger account
  3. Verification of payment vouchers
  4. Review of all invoices for       appropriate documentations and approval
  5. Preparation of payment reports
  6. Any other duty as may be assigned       by the Supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience for the Position

  1. Must have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or finance and hold CPA (K) or ACCA qualifications.
  2. Five (5) years finance experience in the relevant area
  3. Registered member of ICPAK or an equivalent Accounting body
  4. Working knowledge of and experience with most accounting applications.

VACANCY

Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) and the Sanitation Hygiene Access Research Equity (SHARE) Consortium of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) are collaborating on the SHARE II project. The project includes both research and capacity building aspects and is looking for a highly qualified, experienced, motivated and reputable team player to fill the position of “Post doctoral Fellow in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)”.    

The objectives of the capacity building under SHARE II project are:

  1. To help expand the capacity of national core partners and national sector actors in carrying out, interpreting, and adapting applied research to the development of national sanitation and hygiene policies and programmes.
  1. To expand the national research capacity of research institutions to disseminate and engage with policy and programmatic communities to ensure uptake of findings.

 Overall Objectives of the SHARE Fellow:

  1. The SHARE Fellow will ideally be a promising Post-Doc:
    1. With great potential to progress as an independent and successful research leader in the field of Sanitation and Hygiene. 
    2. They will support and coordinate research within the agreed SHARE research programme.
      1. The SHARE Fellow will be responsible for:
  2. Agreeing, arranging and enhancing their own personal development and make key contributions to the SHARE research programme in the area of capacity development of staff and related WASH research.
  3. They will also monitor the contribution and learning of other staff, striving wherever possible to maximise capacity development via research.
    1. The SHARE Fellow is provided with a salary and training budget which will free them to contribute to successful bids for additional funds so as to ensure the continuation (sustainability) of SHARE and WASH research nationally beyond 30th June 2018.
  4. The SHARE Fellow will dedicate about 30% of their time to research into use, to help align SHARE research with national needs and priorities and ensure that research findings influence policy and practice. Three areas in which the Fellow is expected to engage are:
    1. National events convening stakeholders,
    2. Outcome mapping and respective research into use activities,
    3. End of programme national dissemination event.

The SHARE Fellow will represent SHARE and support the work of the programme in collaboration with the research PI and the SHARE Management Group. The primary responsibilities of the Fellow will be to:

  1. Undertake and coordinate research activities within the SHARE research programme
  2. Develop their own research area
  3. Organise and coordinate the capacity development
  4. Contribute to policy briefs and research into use components of the programme
  5. Co-authoring publications in peer-reviewed journals
  6. Help coordinate the SHARE activities in country, by liaising and maintaining communication with the SHARE National Coordinator (if present), SHARE members and the SHARE management group when necessary.
  7. Establish good working relationships with national and international partners involved in the field of Sanitation and Hygiene, as well as in-country SHARE partners.
  8. Coordinate and work with other research partners as required
  9. Any other reasonable activities that are deemed necessary for the success of SHARE

Capacity Building

  1. Coordinate capacity-building activities in-country with support from the PI
  2. With support from SHARE, develop a personal development plan, and attend capacity development courses that have been agreed by SHARE and the in-country SHARE partners that will develop both the fellow as well as the SHARE group in-country.
  3. Provide support to SHARE-funded MSc students when needed
  4. Contribute to updates on capacity-building

Research Into Use

  1. Contribute to the National stakeholder convening event
  2. Contribute to the outcome mapping exercise
  3. Provide support to the National dissemination event
  4. Help provide quarterly updates for the Policy Research Manager and M&E Officer

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT

The applicant should have a PhD in a WASH-related topic, relevant or complementary to SHARE’s research themes, or have a specialization in any of the following areas; environmental Science, Microbiology, Behavioural Science, Epidemiology, Civil Engineering and with interest and focus in WASH. 

The successful applicant will be expected to show great potential to progress as an independent and successful research leader in the field of sanitation and hygiene as well as experience of national and international collaboration.

TERMS OF SERVICE

Appointment to the position will be from 1st November to 30th June 2018.  The successful candidate will be reporting to the Principal Investigator, SHARE II Project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise drivers and mechanics
  • Oversee periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) repair and travel plans

FACILITIES/ESTATES MANAGER

The Facilities Manager reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning and Administration and upholds responsibility of overseeing the transport, construction project; maintenance of University infrastructures such as housing, classrooms, workshops and laboratories.

Qualifications and Experience for the Position

DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR PLANNING AND ADMINISTRATION

Qualifications and Experience for the Position

  Key Duties and Responsibilities for the Position

  1. Ensure effective accountability to the Vice Chancellor for proper management and implementation of activities in administration and planning within the University

  3. Ensure implementation of policies and strategies that support the realization of departmental and divisional objectives and the University’s overall mission

Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) and the Sanitation Hygiene Access Research Equity (SHARE) Consortium of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) are collaborating on the SHARE II project. The project includes both research and capacity building aspects and is looking for a highly qualified, experienced, motivated and reputable team player to fill the position of “Post doctoral Fellow in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)”.    

The objectives of the capacity building under SHARE II project are:

  1. To help expand the capacity of national core partners and national sector actors in carrying out, interpreting, and adapting applied research to the development of national sanitation and hygiene policies and programmes.
  1. To expand the national research capacity of research institutions to disseminate and engage with policy and programmatic communities to ensure uptake of findings.

 Overall Objectives of the SHARE Fellow:

  1. The SHARE Fellow will ideally be a promising Post-Doc:
    1. With great potential to progress as an independent and successful research leader in the field of Sanitation and Hygiene. 
    2. They will support and coordinate research within the agreed SHARE research programme.
      1. The SHARE Fellow will be responsible for:
  2. Agreeing, arranging and enhancing their own personal development and make key contributions to the SHARE research programme in the area of capacity development of staff and related WASH research.
  3. They will also monitor the contribution and learning of other staff, striving wherever possible to maximise capacity development via research.
    1. The SHARE Fellow is provided with a salary and training budget which will free them to contribute to successful bids for additional funds so as to ensure the continuation (sustainability) of SHARE and WASH research nationally beyond 30th June 2018.
  4. The SHARE Fellow will dedicate about 30% of their time to research into use, to help align SHARE research with national needs and priorities and ensure that research findings influence policy and practice. Three areas in which the Fellow is expected to engage are:
    1. National events convening stakeholders,
    2. Outcome mapping and respective research into use activities,
    3. End of programme national dissemination event.

The SHARE Fellow will represent SHARE and support the work of the programme in collaboration with the research PI and the SHARE Management Group. The primary responsibilities of the Fellow will be to:

  1. Undertake and coordinate research activities within the SHARE research programme
  2. Develop their own research area
  3. Organise and coordinate the capacity development
  4. Contribute to policy briefs and research into use components of the programme
  5. Co-authoring publications in peer-reviewed journals
  6. Help coordinate the SHARE activities in country, by liaising and maintaining communication with the SHARE National Coordinator (if present), SHARE members and the SHARE management group when necessary.
  7. Establish good working relationships with national and international partners involved in the field of Sanitation and Hygiene, as well as in-country SHARE partners.
  8. Coordinate and work with other research partners as required
  9. Any other reasonable activities that are deemed necessary for the success of SHARE

Capacity Building

  1. Coordinate capacity-building activities in-country with support from the PI
  2. With support from SHARE, develop a personal development plan, and attend capacity development courses that have been agreed by SHARE and the in-country SHARE partners that will develop both the fellow as well as the SHARE group in-country.
  3. Provide support to SHARE-funded MSc students when needed
  4. Contribute to updates on capacity-building

Research Into Use

  1. Contribute to the National stakeholder convening event
  2. Contribute to the outcome mapping exercise
  3. Provide support to the National dissemination event
  4. Help provide quarterly updates for the Policy Research Manager and M&E Officer

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT

The applicant should have a PhD in a WASH-related topic, relevant or complementary to SHARE’s research themes, or have a specialization in any of the following areas; environmental Science, Microbiology, Behavioural Science, Epidemiology, Civil Engineering and with interest and focus in WASH. 

The successful applicant will be expected to show great potential to progress as an independent and successful research leader in the field of sanitation and hygiene as well as experience of national and international collaboration.

Appointment to the position will be from 1st November to 30th June 2018.  The successful candidate will be reporting to the Principal Investigator, SHARE II Project.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have /be:

  • An earned PhD degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from a recognized academic institution

 Responsibilities

The University Librarian shall report to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs in carrying out the following responsibilities

  • Ensure adequate library and research resources are available to meet users’ needs with assigned budget
  • Develop, direct and evaluate the University needs and service quality assessment and survey of the library
  • Advise the University Management Board and other users on matters pertaining to the library
  • Implementation of University policies and procedures relevant to the department
  • Guiding in the selection and acquisition of informational materials for teaching and research

  • Formulation, planning and control of the departmental budget
  • Formulation and implementation of departmental strategic plan
