Why GLUK

2010

The Great Lakes University of Kisumu plays a prominent role in the academic mission of the University. We are pleased to recognize the research, scholarly, and artistic efforts of the graduate faculty and students. Since it's inception, several Master's, specialist and doctoral degrees have been awarded. Currently there is a high ratio of students and degrees awarded reflecting the breadth of the University's graduate programs and resources, the strength of the graduate faculty with a long tradition of personal and professional concern for students, and the opportunities afforded graduate students for involvement, recognition and support.

GLUK is proud to hold many "firsts." Among these are the admission of women on an equal basis as men; the recognition of creative expression and artistic production as the basis for a graduate degree in lieu of a thesis or dissertation (leading to the development of the Master of Fine Arts degree) and the ranking of many graduate programs in the first quartile of national rankings.

The traditions of access, equality, diversity among the graduate student body, and of recognition of quality graduate programs reflect the University's Strategic Plan and serve as constant goals. In 2012, the GLUK received The University Charter for its efforts to support diversity in education.and is recognized for its contributions to mentoring future graduate students from underrepresented groups .

The quality of graduate programs administered by the GLUK is reflected in the recognition received by its students and faculty. The graduate faculty numbers almost 1200, and many are recognized as outstanding scholars. In the past five years alone

We encourage you to avail yourselves to the breadth of information included in our newly designed website. Information on each graduate program is available and details concerning admission, academic progress and support are available. Additional information is included for faculty, and new sections and links have been added concerning administration of Postdoctoral Scholars, and the undergraduate program. The GLUK is pleased to announce its partnership with HELB in the establishment of the Graduate Comprehensive Campaign. There are many ways in which your contribution can support graduate education at GLUK, including fellowships and scholarships, and the establishment of a Dean's Chair. Please refer to the announcement on the GLUK's home page for details on giving opportunities

Thank you for your interest in the Great Lakes University of Kisumu. Please contact the GLUK directly if you need additional information.
