MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF SPORTS AND GAMES

Director of sports and Games section is found under the dean of student’s office according to the operational structure of Great Lakes University of Kisumu. The key responsibility of the directorate of sports and games is to provide services to the university community both in recreational and competitive stages. The directorate is charged also with ensuring that all sports and games in the university are active.

Sports and games is a key curriculum activity in the university and many talents have been developed and improved through various competitions that the university participates in. Some of the organised competitions include; interfaculty, university open day sports and games, invitation tournaments. The university also participates in universities sports Association (KUSA) national and western sports conference. Great Lakes University is the only member of the association among the private universities from the western region; this is an indication that the management of the university led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Atieno Amadi is keen to support the development of sports and games;

The university has participated in several invitation tournaments and won several medals in various disciplines. The key responsibility of the director of sports ensures that every member of Great Lakes University of Kisumu community is given an opportunity to show case their talents. Some of the sports currently running includes; football, volleyball, handball, netball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, athletics and darts.

The University endeavors to provide quality sports and games services through active participation and development of physical, social and mental healthiness for GLUK community and advance as the powerhouse in games and sports in the region.

We have a range of sport and interest clubs. The facilities available depending on your sports. 

Joining a club or society or other group is a great way to make new friends and get involved while you are studying at GLUK - work life balance is important for your success as a student.

If you're really keen, you can be involved in the in any sport club of your choice or volunteer to assist with the student organisation in the running of sporting events.  This kind of volunteering experience will give you great leadership, governance and management skills.
Remember, extra-curricular activities can give you the edge when you apply for jobs – employers value volunteering both for the skills it gives you and what it says about you as a person.   to make sure you are taking advantage of your sports clubs'  related activities and events.

Over 10 clubs and other  interest  groups are available at GLUK. There's something for everyone including sporting, social, cultural and faith based groups.  Each group holds a range of events across the academic year and new members are always welcome.
